Why is the iPad a big deal?

It's funny to think how tablets were more or less unsuccessful before the iPad tablet was released. Today, the impact of the iPad changed the landscape of the computer industry to the point where personal desktop computers are slowly losing market share.

So why is the iPad such a big deal for me?

The iPad is portable
You can use the iPad virtually anywhere. You can use it in the car, on the bed, in the living room, the mall, a coffee shop, and more. The design is light and durable so taking it with you is not as troublesome a lugging around a laptop.

The iPad doesn't take time to boot up
The slow boot up only happens when you turn on the iPad after turning if fully off. But generally, I just leave it on standby which eliminates the boot up cycle. This is a far cry from desktop of laptop computers which will still take a couple of minutes to resume operation from standby. And it even takes longer to boot up from a powered down state.

The iPad is versatile
The iPad can be used to play games, work on documents, surf the internet, check your Facebook account...almost everything a computer can do. The applications available for the device is extensive enough to have something for doctors, students, graphic artists, travelers, engineers, and more.

With these 3 bottom line features, the iPad dramatically changed the way I consume digital content. With the iPad, I don't have to sit and wait for the boot up cycle to complete just to check my favorite site or send a quick email. With the iPad, I can play a game while accompanying my wife instead of being stuck on a desk. As a matter of fact, now I only use my desktop when I need to perform some heavy photo editing, play some serious game titles and the occasional video editing.

The iPad is a big deal because it changes and improves the way we do things.
