iRig HD

Surfing the net, I stumbled upon iRig HD: a second iteration of iRig. iRig HD is the great little adapter for guitarists to record their music on their Mac or iOS devices.

The iRig HD is a small device that allows you to connect a 1/4” jack to the iRig HD device and connect iRig HD to the mobile device. The software is free, just download the AmpliTube FREE app in App Store. Once installed, just run the app then plug and play.

IK Multimedia is the manufacturer of this neat little device and they have different specialized iRig connectors for different instruments including a microphone.

The older iRig device is priced at $40 in their US online store, pricing for the iRig HD is not yet available. You'll be please to know that iRig is available locally...just search iRig on one of our local online classified ads websites.

The difference I can see between the two models is where the device connects to the Apple device device. The HD version connects via the USB, Lightning or 30pin port while the non-HD version connects to the headphone jack of the Apple device. This difference probably contributes to the sound quality of the recording, but it's hard to tell the difference without testing it.

Here is what the older iRig looks like:
