Ozinefest 2013

Since I've started collecting, I've always thought that it would be a great experience to visit Japan to take in the culture, eat the food, and visit the anime toy conventions. Then I learned that we've got events here in Manila which also showcase some scale figures and other anime toys like nendoroids and figmas. One did take place last weekend at the SM Megatrade Hall called Ozinefest 2013, so I took the opportunity to take a look.

Before the entrance, you'll be welcomed by a wave of cosplayers, anime music sung by bands from inside the event, and more cosplayers! If you don't like crowded places, you might want to avoid the event area. It was interesting to see characters portrayed by cosplayers, but my real objective was to take photos of scale figures that were on display.

This showcase was a great opportunity to see production statues out of the box and here are the photos of the statues that caught my eye. First up, we've got the DX version of Miku's Love is war:

And here's the huge base...I like the design concept of this statue, particularly the windswept hair of Miku and the ginormous platform that she's on. I didn't pick this up for myself because the price tag was too expensive and I don't plan on starting a Miku collection.

Here we have another Miku, the World is Mine statue...I think this is the first release which has the light brown frame, the re-release comes in a dark brown frame. I like this particular statue because you can hang this on the wall as you would have hung a normal picture frame.

This one is actually not so expensive, but it's another Miku statue. But having seen an actual unit, I'm revisiting the idea of getting this statue. Here are some detail shots...

The next statue that caught my eye was Leviathan by Amakuni. I really wanted this statue but it was really expensive at 7k PHP, and I think that it is worth it now that I've seen it. If this was priced at 5k, I wouldn't be thinking twice. Leviathan's face is the highlight for me here, it's a face that I haven't seen before on a statue.

Here are some close-ups...the face is just really nice. I did some research a while back and it seems like this character is based on a spinoff from Vocaloid. The statue has a naughty side to it, because you can display it totally nude. Oh, the base/platform is also huge and elevated by the way.

Next we have one of Shunya's creation: Nasca. This statue has some very exquisite detail and does have Shunya's trademark style which I happen to like.

In these close-up photos you can see how nicely painted the eyes are, the really cool details of the sword, the wings and the hands.

This one is a finely detailed statue and the only thing that held me firmly from buying this statue was the fact that this statue was already released before I started collecting.

Now we have the Yoko figure by Alter from the Gurren Lagann series. This is a nice statue of Yoko but I still prefer the real image version by Max Factory. I really hope that they re-release it someday.

Moving on to Kuroyukihime by Kotobukiya...a huge statue because of the wingspan of her butterfly wings. The statue was displayed without the pig which she should be hugging. I really wished that there wasn't too many people and also wish that the other side of the table was open to the public so that I can have other angles to shoot from.

Then we've got an Ignis on display, Ignis of the endless winter by Orchid Seed. The face turned out to be quite pretty unlike some of the faces from other Orchid Seed releases. I also like the sculpting done to the flowers.

You can see the amount of detail in all the straps. The skirt was kinda transparent and I wonder how the statue would look like with a light source coming from under the skirt.

The turn-off here for me are the overly large breasts which makes the statue look unbalanced for me...thankfully, we've got flowers to cover that up a bit.

Now let's look a Catherine by Max Factory. Catherine is a game character, I haven't played the game and don't plan to play it at all, but this statue was in my radar when it was announced. The legs drew me to this statue but the overall lack of detail made me pass on it. Still nice though.

Here's the character's pretty nicely rendered face.

I don't like how the nails were painted on this statue, and is one reason why I'm not regretting my decision. And a rare angle of the back of a statue...

And lastly we've got Yuyuko Saigyouji by Quest Q. This is the first time for me to see a statue produced by Quest Q and I am impressed with the amount of detail on display here. The face really looks like an anime face which I find generic...although this is how the character really looks like in the anime series Touhou Project.

The fan has a trail of butterflies...really cool. Although there should be 2 fans, one on each hand...we only have one fan on display and it looks like its resting on the sash.

Ruffles everywhere in these detail shots. I really don't know much about this character but the detail on all those ruffles really grabbed my attention. There is a certain level of polish that seems lacking in this Quest Q statue that I can't quite put a finger on, but still a great statue overall.

More butterflies in the base.

Do note that there were many other statues and toys on display, some are too risqué for my taste and some were male characters which I don't find interesting. The toys were from team Onii-chan's stash of treasures. It's really cool for them to share their figures for everyone to enjoy and I'd like to thank them for that and do hope that they keep doing this.

Quite a long post we have here, but I think we all enjoyed looking at the statues. There were some Woody toys from Disney's Toy Story that "blended in" the crowd of scale figures, you might find some in my pics...the Woodys were posed rudely...can you find Woody? :)
