- Improved battery life for Mac Books.
- Improved RAM and GPU management.
- Tagging of files.
- Apple maps.
- iBooks
- Notification enhancements and integration
The real highlight for me are the top two items. It's amazing that Apple made the Mavericks efficient to the point that it adds an hour of web surfing time without having to change the hardware. They've also managed to cram 6gb of RAM on a 4gb chipset by compressing the data for unused apps that are in the background and this happens real time. They've also changed the way the GPU memory is managed. Moving away from a fixed assigned memory to a dynamic approach that allows the GPU to minimize memory use or maximize all available memory for graphic intensive activities.
Another amazing feature not included in the list is that Mavericks is backwards compatible up to the 2007 Macs and the update will also work even if you're still running Snow Leopard. This is according to Apple's keynote presentation.
Boy am I glad I did not pay to upgrade to Mountain Lion because Mavericks is absolutely free. The upgrade is available in the App Store and is available already and I can't wait to upgrade my iMac!
