On August 12, I had the privilege to be at the Lenovo Walang Iwanan Manila marketing campaign led by the Kobe Bryant.
No demo units of Lenovo smartphones were available in the venue so I'll be sharing my experience instead. The media event started out with food and beverages for the entire media contingency present at the Passion restaurant inside Maxim Hotel. After some time the host of the event introduced the winners of the Lenovo contest. This particular winner even flew in from Cebu days before the winners were announced...
...and Lenovo raffled away a lot of Lenovo smartphones.
JD Howard came in and went through a presentation on Lenovo’s current status in the smartphone market. He is Lenovo’s VP of Mobile Internet and Digital Home (MIDH) Business Operations and Worldwide Business Development. He pointed out that China and other emerging markets are driving Lenovo’s success.

The Lenovo smartphones, which belongs to Lenovo's PC+ category, is differentiated by its reliability brought about by the longer battery life and the renowned durability of the Lenovo brand. When asked why Lenovo chose Kobe as their brand ambassador, JD says: "Kobe exemplifies the qualities of Lenovo Mobile’s lineup of smartphones. His dedication, his passion and his outstanding performance on the court epitomizes the power and elegance of our products.”
And since Kobe wasn't keen on making an appearance just yet, the event organizers scrambled to come up with more raffle items. They managed to raffle off two more smartphones, a handful of tumblers and a couple of basketballs autographed by Kobe. Sadly, I did not win anything…would have really wanted a Kobe signed b-ball.
After a few more minutes of standing while waiting and jostling for position...
...the NBA star finally emerged. I realized just how close I was from him after reviewing this photo...this will probably be the closest I'll ever be to the future NBA hall of famer!
The entire press corps came to life and everyone stood up to catch a glimpse of Kobe as he walked into the room.
Kobe spent less than an hour to entertain questions (that's JD Howard beside Kobe by the way)…
…pulled out a pair of Nike Kobe 8 rubber shoes (I think) and gave it to a much surprised JD Howard…
…and did the meet and greet with the Lenovo contest winners, then left for his next engagement.
In case you're wondering, those security personnel are not 7 footers, they're just standing on the stage.
Calvin hooked me up as his photographer and I would like to thank him for the opportunity to get some snaps of the Black Mamba. Also thanks a lot to my father-in-law for lending me his D90...mine is busted at the moment (will be talking about that soon).
