Review: Kamael by Max Factory

When this statue was previewed, it went high on my wish list. And now that I got it, it is definitely one of the best statues that I've purchased to date. Here are some photos I took to share with everyone just how amazing this statue is.

Kamael is a race found in the MMORPG Lineage 2 and the game designers did a great job with character designs and art. And Max Factory has been releasing Lineage 2 statues based on its character designs which have mostly been well received. Kamael is no exception.

One design aspect that drew me to this statue is the wing. It's so unusual that winged character would only have one and I don't know the back story for this feature. Here's a top view of Kamael.

The solitary wing more than compensates for it's missing partner because it looks really angelic and packed with feathery details. Don't be fooled into thinking that the statue has two wings by looking at these photos. It's the one wing taken from the inner and outer sides.

The detail on each wing is lacking in a sense that the feathers are smooth and without barbs, but each feather is clearly distinct and has a pearly finish. I also like the change in color from pearly white to a purplish hue that we see on the wing.

Another cool detail that we see on the statue is this crossbow. I don't play Lineage so I'm not sure what this weapon might be called in the game so I apologize if I got it wrong.

I love the gold ornamentation of the crossbow and how that cross symbol uses a different shade of gold to make it stand out.

The right forearm and hand is armored up as you can see. The rather devilish inspired horn on the armor provides contrast to the character's angelic features.

I also like the detail found under the armor there...here's a closer look.

It looks like a red piece of patterned fabric...that pattern gives it a luxurious vibe don't you think?

The other side of the crossbow is held by Kamael's left hand. This side of the crossbow is equally detailed as the other side of the crossbow, but notice that ring...it has some detail but not distinct enough to really look like anything. I guess some detail is better than none.

Now the left forearm was dressed up differently. There's this exquisite shiny red thing that looks like fire.

And it has some glove extensions from the left hand that's adorned with a pattern...just like the detail found under the armor on the right arm.

Let's now move all the way down the figure. Here's the base...it has a faux marble look that looks as fake as it can be. Nice attempt to make it look real though.

And here's a better look at those cool kicks.

Ain't that something?

Piping runs vertically through the length of the dark red footwear.

At the top of the footwear, we can see that same flame metallic thing we found on the left arm. The back of the footwear is just as exquisite...ain't that something?

Now, here's the undergarment/armor. We've got some intricate detail here, and it follows the same demonic theme found on the right gauntlet that Kamael is wearing. And it also gives a similar feel of contrast against the smooth pelvic area.

At the back, Kamael wears this long fabric. Here's the upper section.

And the lower section.

In case you are wondering what's hidden behind the fabric...well, it's Kamael's rump...kinda hard to take a shot of that with the fabric blocking any sensible view.

Moving higher, we've got the torso.

As you might expect, we have more detail in this region as well. There is a gold jewel in the mid section there and some ruffled fabric. Here is a view from the side where we can see more armor detail. Again, it follows a demonic theme...reminiscent of bat wings.

Here's another angle that shows the detail of the breast plate.

At the back, we have what's holding the armor together. Straps.

Moving further up towards the neck area, we have this collar adorned with a larger jewel than the one found on the torso. We can also see that the faux amber is actually translucent. And the armor...at least I think that's armor...still follows that bat demon like theme.

Here's a view from the front where we can see the actual fold of a red collar.

Here's the back of the collar.

You might have noticed the straps on her arm on an earlier shot. Here's a better angle where you can also see how the armor on the right forearm is bound.

Here is that fluffy thing on the left arm...the same photo I've shared at the start. I guess the only sensible progression is to have a closer look at the face sculpt.

With the same photo, we can already see how beautiful the sculpt is. And this is another reason why I like the statue. These are some shots from another angle.

I'd have to say that the hair seems a little too large for the face...it hides the forehead completely as a result and therefore we're not really seeing the entire face. Though not an elf, we can also see that Kamael also has pointy ears.

For those who have been wondering how the wings are attached to the figure...well, here is the hole at the back where the wing goes.

And without it, we get a better view of the curves found on this sculpt. Here'a view of that fabric covering the rump from the angle that's covered by the large wing.

That's about all I have to share. If there is one issue that I have with this statue is that my copy is a slight leaner (for now). The wing is so heavy that not only does the legs flex, but also the base. I'm planning to remedy that with a hair dryer/cold water approach that I've read about...but there's really no rush.

This has gone on long enough...and sorry for that, there was just so much to share. I hope you enjoyed appreciating the statue with all the details it offers as much as I enjoyed shooting it. What can I say, this is truly one hell of a statue, and here is my last proof.
